Justene Williams is a key figure of the Australian art scene of the 1990s, working across different media including photography, video, performance, installation and sound. Her early work revolved around photography and utilised the ad hoc nature of disposable cameras and one-hour printing labs. The locations for these early photographic projects were sites of public recreation such as shopping centres, car shows and strip clubs. In recent work she has constructed elaborate sets and costumes made from collaged paper and a variety of waste or refuse materials.

With a practice centred in poetics, First Nations artist Jazz Money produces work across a range of mediums including visual art, film, performance, audio and print. She has been described by Vogue Australia as a “multidisciplinary force.” Jazz Money’s first poetry collection, the best-selling 'how to make a basket' (UQP, 2021) won the 2020 David Unaipon Award from the State Library of Queensland. Their second collection with the University of Queensland Press 'mark the dawn' will be released on July 31st.

Marion Abraham is a painter living and working in Lutruwita (Tasmania, Australia) who investigates inner workings of the self. Embracing a fiercely tangible approach to the medium, Abraham infuses traditional painting techniques with subversive qualities to execute dynamic compositions of the body in the landscape. Guided by feminist instinct and a dark sense of humour, she melds romantic and escapist notions, familiar clichés and art historical references with the muddiness of the natural world to navigate ideas of the soul, reimagine power structures and centre the valorising of care.

Kat Shapiro Wood is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, ceramics, encaustic (beeswax and natural resin) painting, and assemblage. Based in Mullumbimby, New South Wales, she brings a poetic minimalism to her work, often using found materials and elemental forms to evoke emotional and metaphysical resonance. Her formal training includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the National Art School, and early mentorship under sculptor Tom Bass, with whom she later taught at his Erskineville studio.

Georgia Spain is a multi-disciplinary artist and musician living and working in Naarm/Melbourne. Spain’s work often resides at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, where she explores the ambiguities and uncertainties of the human experience. Her often-large-scale paintings are characterised by gestural mark making, and a deeply felt connection to the process and materiality of paint. Ambiguously referencing diverse imagery, Spain has a distinct visual language that speaks to the fluidity of existence, where figures merge and intertwine, suggesting a perpetual state of flux and transformation.

Mikala Dwyer is one of Australia’s most acclaimed contemporary artists. Since the mid-1980s she has developed an internationally recognised sculptural, performative and installation practice that explores ideas of shelter, childhood play, modernist design, personal biography, magic and the occult. These works play with the permeable and changeable nature of the materials she uses: plastic, fabric, perspex, clay, wood, plants and sound are but a selection, all coming together to explore the relationship between viewer and object. 

Jo Duck is a fine art and advertising photographer. Driven by an appreciation for all things camp, joyful, and absurd, Jo Duck’s work centres on crafting unique characters who live by their own rules. Duck’s work radiates an optimism that contributes to a distinctive style, one that is simultaneously strange and heartwarming. The humour of Duck’s work is coupled with an intense approach to preproduction, seeing the creation of unique and atmospheric narratives. The Hannah St Hotel suites and rooms are inhabited by assembled cast of curious characters born from Jo’s imagination. Some have devised ingenious disguises to evade facial recognition technology; others belong to a parade of mysterious men. Many are unabashedly romantic, while some verge on jump-scare creepy, all with a story to tell as they go about their business on the streets of Melbourne.

Studying both Fine Art at both Victorian College of Arts, University of Melbourne and QUT, Hannah Gartside works across kinetic sculpture, installation and quilt making. Characteristically sensual and poetic, her works transform and in some cases animate, found fabrics and clothing and ephemera to articulate experiences and sensations of longing,
tenderness, care, desire and fury. For Hannah, learning to listen to the material informs her artistic practice, and the ability of fabric to convey and inspire emotion.

Isadora current work engages with the concept of novel ecosystems – drawn from the fields of environmental conservation and restoration – as a framework for examining the systems of value that shape our experiences and interactions with the material world. Central to this inquiry is her studio-based sculptural practice, which serves as a point of convergence for exploring material encounters within the local environment, a landscape situated between remnant waterways, heavy industry, and suburban development.
